- V.Oover 5 yearsThe Giver movie was a pretty good movie. It was very different from the book The Giver. I honestly prefer the book but the movie itself was pretty good. My favorite part is when Jonas finally crosses the border that separates them from the real world because that’s when everyone starts seeing the reality . They changed many scenarios from the book in the movie for example the way the receiver is selected is different from the books. Which is why I’m not the biggest fan of the movie but it’s also not the worse. I do recommend this movie but it’s better to read the book before to compare the differences and similarities. I would say adults would prefer it because kids probably wouldn’t understand the movie and it’s meaning. I liked this movie because it has a very good meaning behind it but I don’t like it because it’s pretty different from the book. I’d give this movie about 3 stars only because I didn’t like they changed it from the book . You’ll notice the difference. The Giver, Phillip Noyce, Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Cameron Monaghan, Meryl Streep, Odeya Rush, James Jillings, 94 min., 2014
- Hayley.over 5 yearsI think this movie is very interesting. It was a little confusing because it was different from the book. In the beginning everything happened so quickly to where in the book everything was spaced out and it was more like a sequence of events happening. While in the movie it was all just thrown at us at once. Many things in the movie was wrong like certain people’s ages. Overall it was very similar with the plots. I did like how they added details in like with the food and clothes.
- Someone over 5 yearsIn my opinion, I think that the book is way better than the movie. The events from the book compared to the movie are somewhat different.Take Jonas for example, in the book he’s 12 but in the movie he looks like he’s about 18. The assignments the main characters get in the movie are very different from the book. In the book, Asher’s job is Assistant Recreation Director while in the movie he’s a Pilot. I don’t know about you, but that’s the opposite of a pilot. But in the end, Jonas still becomes the Receiver and he gives away the memories to the community in the end (like in the book). I do prefer the ending in the movie that the book though, since the movie has a happier ending. If you prefer movies that don’t have a lot of action or suspense, then I definitely recommend this movie. I think that any young kid would like this though. I would give this movie 3 stars since it was decent compared to other movies that come from books. The Giver, Phillip Noyce, Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Cameron Monaghan, Meryl Streep, Odeya Rush, and James Jillings, 1 hour 34 minutes, 2014
- Jose Bover 5 yearsMovies made about books are usually based off of the book, but this movie was very loosely made from the book and didn’t include a lot of information that was given in the book, which is why I didn’t like it. The movie left out so much information and rushed the storytelling about Jonas and his realization of the world around him. The storytelling process was obviously rushed,

- Jazmineover 5 yearsThe Giver movie compared to the The Giver book is a big difference and I honestly like the Giver book better than the movie. The movie didn’t make sense to me. Everything was different such as the ages of the characters and the entire movie in general. Everything in the beginning happened so quickly. In the book, it took them time until the ceremony of twelve, not to mention they look older then 12. The movie barely has any suspense in my opinion. I like a movie with suspense, and if you do too then I don’t recommend this movie for you to watch. The filming, effects, setting, and music was okay probably the only thing I liked. The characters acting in my opinion was a bit to dramatic. I’m not a fan of over dramatic movies or actors. After seeing this movie I absolutely don’t recommend this movie. Everything happened to quickly and it took away the element of storytelling and also not to mention they changed a lot of elements in the story compared to the book. I just in general like the book way better than the movie. I would give 1 star to this movie although I do recommend to read the book. And if you do want to watch the movie, I recommend to read the book first and then the movie. You’ll notice the difference.
