This book is set in a futuristic Chicago, after a terrible war that destroyed the world. The city is split into 5 factions: Dauntless, the brave, Erudite, the intelligent, Candor, the honest, Amity, the peaceful, and Abnegation, the selfless. At age 16, everyone will take a test to determine which faction best suits them, but when Beatrice (Tris) Prior, from Abnegation, takes the test, she gets 3 different results. She is Divergent. She must choose between her family and what she wants, and when she does choose, she finds out about a plan to eliminate all the Divergents. This book is awesome, and I recommend it to anybody who likes post apocalyptic books, dystopian fiction, or The Hunger Games.

In the second installment of the Lovecraft Middle School series, things are starting to get even weirder for Robert, Glenn, and Karina. Sarah and Sylvia Price have recently returned from being kidnapped. They say everything is fine, but in Lovecraft Middle School, nothing is ever as it seems. They discover Sarah and Sylvia have become monsters; and when Sarah starts to run for student council, Robert has to run against her to protect the school. Will Robert win the election? Will he make it out alive? Read this book to find out. With an unexpected twist at the end, this book does not disappoint. If you liked the first book of this series, you should definitely read The Slither Sisters.

This is a quick but enthralling read about a school full of mysteries: rats running rampant around the pristine new hallways, girls disappearing, a mysterious attic in a giant library, and a teacher that doesn't seem quite right. Robert, a seventh grader at Lovecraft Middle School, will have to work together with his old archenemy, a two-headed rat, and a ghost in order to unveil the mysteries of his new school. This is a very unique and interesting book that I would mostly recommend to 2nd to 5th graders or fans of mystery and fantasy.

Iron Hearted Violet is a book set in a world very similar to ours, but with dragons, gods, and a mirrored sky. It is about a young princess and her best friend Demetrius that find a forbidden book. The forbidden book tells the story of the Nybbas. The Nybbas is an evil god that is trying to escape from captivity. With the help of a storyteller and the last dragon alive, Violet and Demetrius must defeat the Nybbas and save the world. I like this book because it was different from other books with princesses in them. In this book, the princess is the one that is saving everyone, instead of having someone save her. I also found it interesting that the author decided to write the book in the perspective of an old man (the storyteller) instead of Violet or Demetrius, even though Violet and Demetrius are the main characters. It was something I have never seen before, but I think it's actually a really good way of writing. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books with things like dragons, myths, and other worlds.
